MAE YAI'S
In 1968, my grandma and mom left Thailand for America. What my Mae Yai (Thai for grandma) brought over was irreplaceable. Her altruistic love and talent for cooking left an impression. Inspired by my grandmother’s food, Mae Yai’s is an authentic Thai restaurant that pulls from Thailand’s amazing culture, traditions, and of course food. Guests will experience the same cuisine my Mae Yai tirelessly worked to cook during my childhood. Mae Yai’s focuses on evoking feelings of warmth, royalty, and tradition.
The logo was designed by blending contemporary abstraction with Thai abstraction. This Thai form of abstraction is called Lai Thai and hails from the Ayutthaya kingdom. It is often depicted as a pattern that embellishes temples, clothing, and furniture. To further punctuate this connection, the logo can fit into a greater pattern system. A slab serif primary font was chosen to compliment the icon and convey elegance throughout the branding.
